Graduation

Graduation, it’s a great time. You get that feeling of pride and accomplishment. You’ve finally made it. After 12 or 13 years you’ve completed high school. It’s finally all paying off. The aggravating teachers, hard work, long nights and early mornings.

As the moment approaches you start looking back on what you’re going to leave behind. The people and classes you’re going to miss. You even start thinking that you might miss that “prison” you’ve been locked in for 4 years. They say graduation isn’t the end; it’s only the beginning of a new chapter in our lives. Maybe they are right.

But people that were main characters in the last chapter will either be lost or only make special appearances in this new chapter. So many things will never be the same as we begin again. Some people will be lost, some things will be lost and they will be missed, but others will be found.

Although it’s sad to see such a big chapter end this new one brings with it new opportunities. Just like a new chapter is written on blank paper we also get a clean slate as we leave high school. It doesn’t matter if you were branded a jock, geek, nerd, loner, punk, prep or anything in between, you will no longer be stuck with that label. You can be anything you want to be.

As the big day gets closer you also look back on those that helped you through your school career. Parents, friends, loved one, teachers, counselors and yes even those annoying principals. Whetther they helped with academics, sports, clubs, hard times, or even just gave you someone to relax and kick back with. They fussed at us all year about “senioritis.” Well turns out they had a point.

And I believe there is another part of senioritis that no one told us about. The depression, sadness and longing that hits at the end of the year. Sadly there is no pill for this dangerous disease. But I believe that with true friends, family loved ones, and the memory of those that we have lost to motivate us we can make it through.

So Congratulations graduating class!

And may God bless and keep you through out the years to come.
